Description
The Burrows chest tomb, located approximately 1.5 metres north of the tower of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, is a rectangular tomb dated 1807, commemorating Sarah Burrows. It is made of white marble and rests on a moulded plinth. The flat lid features moulded edges, and the corners are adorned with fluted balusters. The ends and sides of the tomb have oval panels surrounded by radiating lines. Inscriptions on the north and south sides begin in Gothic lettering and continue in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, with some italicized text. The northern inscription notes the death of Sarah Burrows in 1807, while the south side records the death of her husband Thomas in 1810. Their daughter Sarah, who died in 1843, is commemorated on the east end panel.
