Description
Watermill House is a Grade II* listed house dating from the late 15th century, originally built as a Wealden hall-house and restored in the 20th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with close-studding and plaster infilling, resting on a mainly stone plinth, with red brick on the left side. It has two storeys and four windows. The first floor of the end window bays extends outward, supported by the protruding ends of the floor joists and brackets. The eaves also oversail on curved braces and a bracket. The 20th-century restored mullions include a tall hall window, while the southern ground floor window consists of two wide lights with four-centred heads. The original four-centred arched doorcase is adorned with quatrefoil carvings in the spandrels and features a plank door. The south front has a jetty on the first floor. Inside, there is a dais beam, a 16th-century inserted ceiling in the former open hall, an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer, and an octagonal crown post.
