Description
The Queen's Well is a well house located in Benenden, dated 1887 and built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It features a wooden structure set on a stone base with a tiled roof. The square well house has four chamfered corner posts resting on moulded stone padstones, with elaborately chamfered tension braces connecting to the wall plate and corners of the roof. The hipped slate roof includes some bands of curved tiles and is topped with a wooden finial. There are seats on two sides of the well house. Inside, there is an 8-foot high wooden pump that is battered at the base and chamfered with run-out stops; the pump handle was missing at the time of the survey, and the lead spout was partly missing as well. Additionally, there is a stone trough with an iron drain and a shield displaying the name and date. The inscription reads: "Honour the King. The Queen's Well, Fear God. 1837. Jubilee. 1887."
