Description

Former farmhouse, dating to the early 17th century with additions from the 19th century and alterations in the 20th. The original core is timber-framed, close-studded, with the ground floor brick and the front elevation weatherboarded, and has a peg-tile roof. Brick stacks are also present.

The house follows a T-shaped plan. The main block faces west and retains a single-room fragment of the original 17th-century house, with a stack at the south end. This house likely originally extended further south and would have had a lobby entrance plan. The southern portion has been replaced by an outshut and associated buildings. A two-phase crosswing extends northwards, with a 19th-century front (west) and a 1950s rear (east). The present entrance is now within the 19th-century wing.

The west-facing elevation has an irregular arrangement of windows: one window to the projecting 19th-century wing on the left, one window to the central 17th-century block, and one window to the outshut at the right (south) end. A 1960s lean-to porch with a front door is located on the inner (south) return of the 19th-century wing. The wing includes a ground floor canted bay with small-pane casements featuring margin glazing, and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor. The main block also has a 16-pane first-floor sash and an 18-pane fixed ground-floor window. The outshut has a small-pane casement. The rear elevation retains some close-studded timber framing on the first floor.

The interior of the 17th-century room features a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and exposed joists, as well as an original open fireplace with an oak lintel. The first floor and roofspace were not inspected, but it is reported that the roof timbers are 20th-century replacements.
