Description
This is a row of six headstones located approximately 4 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Speldhurst. These headstones date from the 18th century and commemorate various members of the Fry family. They are made of upright sandstone slabs, ranging in height from 200 to 750 millimeters. Each headstone features a shaped top; two are carved with winged cherub heads (one with a pair), while four display crossed arrows and one has crossbones. Most of the headstones have fielded panels, and they are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. However, many of the names are difficult to read, and the dates are obscured.
