Description
The coach house, located about 40 meters northeast of Matfield House, dates from around 1736 and is contemporary with the house and its stable block. It features a front elevation of Flemish bond brick, while the rear is weatherboarded on sandstone footings, topped with a peg-tile roof that has lead rolls.
The building is south-facing and rectangular in plan, with a rear outshut. It has a large central doorway at the front and a porch at the rear center. This coach house is part of a group of buildings that form the stable courtyard northeast of Matfield House.
The exterior is a single storey with a hipped roof and lead rolls. It has pilasters on the left and right, a platband, and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The front elevation features a segmental-arched doorway with plain imposts and a keyblock, which matches the doorways of the stable block to the west. The entrance has a two-leaf 18th-century door with flush panels and original HL hinges. The rear elevation includes a tall porch with a hipped roof, flanked by outshuts with catslide roofs. The porch has paired plank doors and pigeon holes in the upper part.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
