Description
The railed chest tomb of the Hodgkin family, along with its attached railed enclosure, is located about 25 metres southeast of the Church of St. Margaret. This structure dates from the early 19th century. Both the tomb and the enclosure feature spear-headed rails and principals topped with urn finials. The chest tomb is coffin-shaped, with a moulded plinth and fluted corner piers. It has rectangular inscription panels with chamfered corners and roundels in the corner spaces. The end panels are designed in two stages, with the upper panels mirroring the side panels. The top slab is inscribed to John Hodgkin, who died in 1827 and was a Storekeeper of H.M. Ordnance at Woolwich and Deptford.
