Description

This is a row of three terraced cottages, known as Shields Cottages, together with the adjacent property High Hope, located on The Street in Plaxtol. The cottages were built in 1802, as indicated by a datestone on the first floor. They are constructed of red brick with decorative blue headers, featuring a wooden eaves cornice and a mansard roof covered in plain tiles. The roof is punctuated by four sashed, segment-headed dormers, and there are two ridge stacks positioned either side of the centre. The front of the cottages has a symmetrical arrangement with four window openings, spaced between two pairs of doorways, one at each end and two in the centre. The windows are sashed with glazing bars, open boxes and gauged heads. The doorways have panelled, quarter-glazed doors, each protected by a flat hood supported on brackets. The datestone is set within a circular recessed panel on the first floor.
