Description

The Forge Restaurant, formerly known as Old Forge House, is a late 16th-century farmhouse that has been converted into a restaurant. It features a 19th-century wing on the left, which was previously the village forge. The building is constructed of red and grey brick, with an underbuilt ground floor and a tile-hung first floor. It has a plain tiled roof with an end stack to the east and a central stack off-ridge at the front.

The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window front with modern diamond lattice casements. To the right, there is a boarded and ribbed door topped with an 18th-century flat hood supported by brackets. A lean-to extension is also present on the right side. The 19th-century wing on the left projects to the south and is made of painted brick, featuring a plain tiled roof with a catslide to the west. This wing is also two storeys tall and has one window at the south end, with diamond lattice casements. The entrance and a large open bay are located to the right on the east return side, with weatherboarding above the bay.

Inside, there are two original forges adjacent to the 19th-century wing. One of the fireplaces features a stop-chamfered bressumer with a salthole. Additionally, there is a cobbled pavement in front of the left-hand part of the house.
