Description
Wilmot Cottage is a cottage that was formerly two cottages and is said to have been a tavern at one time. It consists of two sections: the left-hand part has three bays and dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, while the right-hand bay was added in the late 18th century or early 19th century using matching materials. The building is constructed of Kentish ragstone coursed rubble on the ground floor, with brick dressings and a tile-hung first floor. It features a hipped peg-tiled roof with brick chimneystacks, and it has two storeys and attics, with a total of four windows. The earlier section has two hipped dormers and four window openings, one of which has a cambered arch on the ground floor, although the windows were boarded over at the time of the survey. There is a deep ragstone plinth with a brick band of two courses at the top. The central doorcase of the earlier part has a plank door with iron hinges. There is a brick chimneystack in the centre of the earlier section and an external brick chimneystack on the southeast elevation. An outshut is located on the north elevation.
