Description

This is a house, originally a hall-house of the classic Wealden type, dating to the early 15th century. The building is timber-framed with red brick infilling on the ground floor and plaster infilling on the first floor. It features jetties on the first floor in the left and right bays, with angle pieces supporting the eaves in the centre. The steep, plain tiled roof is hipped with a gablet to the left, and extends as a catslide. A large brick ridge stack is located to the right of the centre. The house has two storeys and a three-window front, which is slightly irregular, with wooden mullion casements. A boarded door is set within a four-centred arched surround, positioned under the right-hand jetty. The interior includes a drawing room with a moulded wooden bressumer to the fireplace and a moulded central beam to the insulated ceiling. Original mouldings from the hall survive in the drawing room, including an embattled dais-beam. The kitchen retains a spear-truss and a moulded octagonal crown-post to the collar-purlin roof.
