Description

The Monk's Head public house and numbers 46 to 50 (even) form a cottage row dating back to the 17th century, with a 19th-century addition forming the public house. Numbers 48 and 50 are constructed from random galletted rubble stone with red brick dressings, featuring exposed timber framing, with one wind brace on the first floor of number 48. The first floor of number 50 is rendered. Numbers 46 and the public house are built with a chequer pattern of red and blue brick. The windows have arched retaining heads on the ground floor. The roofs are plain tiled, with ridge stacks to the left and right, and a large end stack to the right. A gable of a rear wing rises above the main range to the right of the public house. The building is two storeys high, with an irregular facade of 7 windows on the first floor and 6 windows on the ground floor. The public house and the right-hand bay of number 46 have a more regular appearance. There are four entrances: one at the extreme right (number 50), to the right of the second window from the left (number 48), to the right of the third window from the left (number 46), and to the left of the sixth window from the left (for the public house). The public house has a half-glazed door; the others are boarded. A small, flat hood supported by brackets is above the public house entrance, while pentice hoods on brackets are above the other entrances. A late 19th-century wing extends to the rear of the public house.
