Description
The Old Mill House is a millhouse that has been converted into a residence. It dates back to the 15th century, with possible earlier origins, and features a 19th-century wing and additional later modifications. The building is timber-framed with plaster infilling at the front and painted brick on the sides and rear. It has a plain tiled hipped roof with a brick ridge stack on the left and three flat-headed dormers. The house is two storeys high and has a five-window front with lattice casements. A central gabled 20th-century porch has lattice glazing and a half lattice-glazed door. To the left, there is a two-storey gabled addition with barge boards and one window on each floor. At the rear, there is a catslide extension. Inside, there is evidence of a substantial timber frame and a rafter roof with later side purlins, which may be of very early construction. There are no original purlins or trusses remaining. To the south, there are low buildings (not listed) that are the remains of the former mill, which was powered by the East Malling stream.
