Description
The Church of St Peter ad Vincula is a Grade II* listed building located on New Road in Ditton. It dates from the 12th century, with early 14th and 15th-century elements, and was restored in 1860 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The church is constructed of ragstone rubblestone with dressed stone dressings and has a plain tiled roof. It features a plain 15th-century two-stage tower with a string course below a plain coped parapet, and the main entrance is located in the west front of the tower.
The nave has three windows, including two unrestored early 14th-century windows on the east side with curvilinear tracery. The chancel has two windows, which are 15th-century square-headed windows with drip moulds and cusped pointed arched lights. An early 14th-century type east window was added by Scott. Inside, the church has a braced and trussed roof with plaster infilling, and the chancel arch was replaced by Scott.
Notable monuments include one for Richard Brown, who died in 1672, erected after 1691, featuring a tablet with a scrolly open pediment, side scrolls, swags, and a winged figure below. There is also stained glass from the early 14th century in the left-hand window of the north side of the nave.
