Description
Forge Gate Farmhouse is a 16th-century Wealden hall house. The ground floor is built of red brick, while the first floor is tile-hung, with some ragstone walling visible on the west side. The roof is plain tiled, featuring a returned gable on the left and a hipped section on the right, with a ridge stack. The house has two storeys and an irregular three-window facade, with 19th-century lattice casements. There is a boarded door located to the left of center and a later wing at the rear. Inside, there is a 16th-century fireplace with a chamfered bressummer and salthole, and possible 16th-century panelling with an arched doorway, which may have originated from a buttery or pantry. The roof structure includes a crown post and two king-posts.
