Description

Oak Cottage is a 16th-century Wealden hall house that has been ceiled. The building features a timber frame that is partly exposed and partly underbuilt and clad with painted brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has four framed bays and stands two storeys tall, with a recessed centre and a large brace supporting the flying wall plate on the right side. The hipped roof has stacks on both the left and right sides. On the first floor, there is one horizontal sliding sash window, one glazing bar sash window, and one wooden casement window. The ground floor originally had three wooden casement windows that were horizontal sashes. A ribbed door is located to the centre left within a gabled porch.
