Description
Godwins is a 15th-century Wealden hall house that was ceiled in the 16th century. The building features a timber frame with exposed close studding and plaster infill, and it is underbuilt in painted brick with a plain tiled roof. It has three framed bays and stands two storeys high. Originally, the house had jetties on the left and right sides, but these are now underbuilt. The central hall has been sealed and re-walled flush with the wings, although it still shows arched braces to the wall plate. The roof is hipped with gablets, and there are stacks on the left end, centre left, and projecting from the right end. On the first floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows, while the ground floor has one sash window to the left, a central tripartite sash, and a 19th-century five-light transomed window to the right. There is also a four-panel door to the left.
