Description
The Angier chest tomb, located about 16 metres northeast of the chancel of the Parish Church of St John, is a chest tomb likely dating from the late 1860s. It is made of Portland stone and features a 17th-century style with some Gothic details. The tomb is rectangular and sits on a plinth, topped with a coped, moulded, oversailing lid. Each corner has moulded diagonal balusters in a 17th-century style. The long sides of the tomb have inscription panels framed with cusped Gothic designs. The earliest inscription commemorates Abigail Angier, who died in 1862. This tomb is one of the earlier monuments in the churchyard.
