Description

The North half of the main School Buildings at Tonbridge School was added in 1894, designed by architect Campbell Jones. The structure is made of sandstone ashlar. It features a tower on the south side with two carriage arches on the ground floor and two storeys of three-light windows above. This tower has three buttresses that rise to the height of the second floor, a panel of chequered flints and stone with a clock face in the center, and above this, four narrow trefoil-headed lancets. There are octagonal turrets with a parapet between them and a tall pyramidal tiled roof. Adjacent to the tower is a block containing seven windows with three lights on the ground floor, two lights on the first floor, and gabled dormers with two lights each on the second floor. The section concludes on the north side with a smaller tower that resembles the one in the center of the 1864 range, featuring an oriel window that extends from the first to the second floor. To the north and east of the 1894 block are the Science Buildings, constructed in 1886-1887 by architect E H Burnell, which are not listed.
