Description
The building consists of a barn, an oast kiln, and an attached farmbuilding, located about 40 meters northwest of Selbys in Hildenborough. The barn likely dates from the late 18th century, while the kiln and farmbuilding are from the 19th century. At the time of the survey in 1988, the group was undergoing conversion to housing.
The barn is framed and weatherboarded, with a peg-tile roof. It has an overall L-plan layout, positioned parallel to the road and set back on a north-south axis, with the kiln intruding into the barn at the southern end. The farmbuilding extends west from the barn to the south.
The barn features a hipped roof at the north end and a porch on the east side. The oast kiln has a conical roof, although the cowl is missing, and the attached farmbuilding has a gable-ended roof. Inside, the barn has a five-bay structure with a tie-beam and queen strut roof, clasped purlins, and intermediate birdsmouth ties at collar level. The interior of the farmbuilding was not inspected. The group has historical significance in relation to Selbys, which is under separate ownership.
