Description

Little Moat Cottage is a house that has been converted into a barn. It dates from the mid-14th century, with a facade added in the late 18th century. The building is timber framed with a brick front, which has been rendered at the time of the last survey. The left gable end is weather-boarded, and it has a plain tile roof that is hipped at both ends, featuring a central brick ridge stack. Each floor has two window openings and one central door opening. There is also a narrow lean-to at the rear. Inside, there is an open hall with a 2-bay timber framed construction. The rear half of a central smoke-blackened base cruck truss remains, along with significant portions of 14th-century timber framing, including a dragon tie in one corner and a rear aisle.
