Description

The Triumphal Arch in Mereworth Park, dating from around 1725, is believed to have been designed by Colin Campbell. This large, ruined arch serves as an eye-catching feature just within the boundary of East Peckham. It is inspired by the Arch of Titus in Rome and is constructed of brick faced with ashlar. The central arch openings are flanked by coupled composite pilasters, which support a moulded entablature and parapet. The arch features pilaster trabeations with strings at the capital level. At the time of the resurvey, the structure was noted to be in a dilapidated condition.
