Description
A group of railed tomb chests and a memorial cross located about 5 metres south of the nave of St. Mary's Church, dating from the early 19th century. The tomb chests are made of stone and feature cast iron railings. They have a moulded plinth, a chest with a moulded base, baluster corner posts, four-lobed panels, and a fluted frieze. The inscription on one tomb chest is illegible, and it has spear-head rails. This particular tomb chest belongs to John Swinford, who died in 1846, and includes a moulded base and projecting raised panels with a moulded slab, as well as leaf finials on the rails. The memorial cross, dedicated to the Swinford family and dating from the mid-19th century, features a floriate cross set on a shaft with a pinnacled base on a square plinth that has two steps. It is surrounded by low rails with cross-shaped finials.
