Description
St Stephen's Methodist Church, built between 1876 and 1878 by architects Drewe and Bower, is designed in the Early French Gothic style. The church features a Greek cross plan with a tower rising alongside the south arm. It is constructed of ragstone with stone dressings and has a tiled roof. The prominent west gable includes a large bar-traceried window, while the tall rectangular tower has a very steep hip and lucarnes on the south side. Additionally, there is a rose window on the east side. The south front displays three smaller gables, one of which contains the entrance. This church is notable for its rare Early French Gothic style among Methodist churches.
