Description

This is a late 19th-century building originally constructed as Rural District Offices. The building is characterised by a central ashlar tower, topped with crenellations and a clock face. Below the clock face is a seated statue of an angel holding a trumpet, and below that a three-light bay supported on console brackets, with a round-headed doorcase. To either side of the tower are two-storey sections with decorative pargetting featuring imitation curved braces. The structure includes red brick spiral chimneys and gables adorned with very wide, fretted bargeboards. The building features three mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights, with decorative plaster angels and animals embellishing the gables. Shopfronts are defined by green tiled surrounds. The side elevation incorporates two curved pedimented dormers and pargetting depicting maidens, putti (winged infants), and flowers. The side elevation facing the Carlton Cinema displays four round-headed windows with traceried detailing.
