Description

This terrace row, numbers 1 to 5 inclusive, was built in the 1840s in Ramsgate. The building is constructed with a textured rendered finish and has a slate roof. It is three storeys high with a basement, and features a string course marking the level of the second floor, topped by a parapet that sweeps upwards centrally and to the left. Five chimney stacks are arranged from left to right along the facade. The windows are generally sash windows with the original vertical glazing bars still present in numbers 3, 4, and 5. Numbers 1 and 2 have wooden casement windows; each of these houses has two sashes within each casement on the second floor. A two-storey and basement canted bay window extends along the front, with cornices detailing the windows and a parapet above. The entrances are through half-glazed and panelled doors, set within semi-circular fanlights. These fanlights are framed by rusticated surrounds with vermiculated keystones, each with a flight of five steps leading up to the entrance. Spear-headed iron railings define the steps and the basement areas. A canted oriel window and a sunk-panelled parapet are visible on the right return.
