Description
The Non Conformist Chapel in Margate Cemetery is a cemetery chapel built in 1856 by Birch of Margate, with G Hadlow as the builder. It is designed in the Perpendicular style and constructed from Kentish ragstone rubble, featuring stone dressings and a tiled roof with terracotta ridge tiles.
On the exterior, the west end showcases a circular opening with a cinquefoil light above an ogee-arched doorcase, which is adorned with foliate corbels and colonnettes. The door itself is a plank door with elaborate ironmongery. The north side features three triple windows with trefoil heads, while the south side has two similar windows and a central gable with a double trefoil head. The east window is notable for its large traceried design, which includes a sexfoil and three trefoil heads.
Inside, the chapel consists of two bays with an arch-braced roof supported by collar beams on carved corbels. The interior also includes wooden dado panelling, original pews, and a tiled floor around the altar.
