Description
The gates, gatepiers, and section of curved wall at Margate Cemetery were built around 1856, likely designed by Birch of Margate and constructed by builder G Hadlow. The cast iron gates feature central double carriage gates flanked by two square cast iron gatepiers, which are accompanied by similar single pedestrian gates. The gates include spear rails, a midrail, dograils, and ornamental panels with fleur de lys and quatrefoils designs. The gatepiers are adorned with cross motifs. Next to the pedestrian gates are two tall stock brick piers topped with gabled stone caps. The structure also includes sections of curved brick wall, approximately three feet high, which are linked to the stock brick piers and topped with pyramidal stone caps.
