Description

This is a pair of houses, built in the 1830s on West Cliff Road, Ramsgate. They are constructed of stock brick, with parts rendered, and have a slate roof. The houses are two storeys tall with an attic and basement. The ground floor has a rusticated base, incorporating Corinthian pilasters carved with Greek key patterns, which support a cornice parapet. A hipped roof is topped with stacks in the centre and to the rear right. There are two dormers in the roof. The first floor has four sash windows with moulded surrounds. The ground floor features two bow windows with pilasters and an entablature. A wooden casement and a half-glazed door lead to the basement on the left, and a sash window with glazing bars leads to the basement on the right. Two-storey porches provide entry to the left and right returns; the left porch (number 42) has a jettied upper storey with incised pilaster strips and consoles to the roof, and a boarded door with a cambered head and incised pilaster surround at the head of the steps. The right porch (number 44) has a smaller upper storey and a door consisting of four panels. A tile-hung oriel window is located at the rear right.
