Description
Lavender Cottages is a row of three cottages located on Waterham Road in Hernhill, dating from around 1700, with extensions made in the early 19th century. The cottages are timber framed and clad with red brick, with structural red brick used in the extensions, and they feature plain tiled roofs.
The left cottage, built in the early 19th century, is two storeys high and has brick corbel eaves under a double span roof, with a stack projecting from the left end. It has one wooden casement window on each floor and a boarded door with a segmental head. The central cottage, dating from around 1700, is one storey with an attic and features a gabled dormer and a stack on the right. It has one wooden casement window, one sash window, and a central boarded door, all with segmental heads. The right cottage, built in the 19th century, is also two storeys and has corbelled eaves with a stack on the right. It has a regular arrangement of two sash windows on each floor, both with segmental heads, and a central ribbed door with a flat hood supported by brackets.
Inside, the cottages feature heavy beams in a central position and a large fireplace with a wooden mantel.
