Description
78 and 78A Preston Street comprise a building with an 18th/19th century front applied to a core dating back to the 17th century. The building is two storeys high with an attic, and has four windows. It features a tiled gabled roof with two gabled dormers. The front of the building is stuccoed and has a moulded cornice with dentils and an ovolo moulding. A panelled stuccoed parapet sits above the cornice, topped with capping. A clock is affixed to the front with an elaborate wrought iron bracket, projecting from the first floor of No. 78. Windows are set in reveals behind moulded frames. The ground floor has a late 19th-century cutvilinear shop front to the south, and a 20th-century plate-glass shop front to the north. The building forms a group with Nos. 75 to 78 (consec) and No. 78A.
