Description
No 5 East Street is a large 18th-century house that stands three storeys tall and features five windows. The building is constructed of brown brick, accented with red brick window dressings, a stringcourse, and pilasters on either side of the front. These pilasters rest on high bases and extend to the first floor, where their capitals continue across the front as a stringcourse. Above this, rusticated pilasters frame the top storey. The house has a wooden modillion eaves cornice and a hipped tiled roof. The glazing bars are intact above the ground floor. However, there is a large 20th-century plate-glass shop front with stone rubble casing and a deep boarded fascia, which is not in keeping with the style of the original building above. Nos 2 to 5 East Street form a group.
