Description
Gosmere Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century. The front of the farmhouse is painted brick, with the right-hand bay built in English bond and the rest in Flemish bond. The roof is slate, with plain tiles to the rear. The house stands on a plinth and has two storeys and a basement. The construction is an irregular mixture of 16th-century English hand brick on the right and early 19th-century Flemish bond brick on the left. The roof is hipped and has eaves embellished with paired modillions, with stacks located at the front left, rear left, and rear right. There are three sash windows with glazing bars and gauged heads on both the first floor and the ground floor. A half-glazed door is centrally positioned on the right-hand side, with attached Doric columns and a tented hood with valancing on posts. Three basement openings are present. Inside, the 16th-century part of the house contains a large inglenook fireplace with a double flue, whilst the rest of the interior is from the 19th century and plain. Original brick mullioned windows remain on the first floor and basement on the right return, and at the rear right.
