Description

The Mount is an 18th-century building originally located on London Road. Formerly the Office of the Ministry of National Insurance and the County Agricultural Emergency Committee, the main front of the building faces south. It is two storeys and an attic in height, with five windows and three dormers. The building is constructed of brick, which is painted, and features a brick string course. It has a wooden modillion eaves cornice and a tiled roof. The dormer windows are topped with pediments; the central one is triangular, while the outer two are curved. The glazing bars to the windows are now missing. A Victorian glass conservatory extends across the entire width of the south front, obscuring the ground floor. The east front has five windows and a porch that was originally supported by two pairs of fluted Doric columns, although the end pair is now missing. The porch features a pediment, a round-headed doorway with a semi-circular fanlight, and two narrow round-headed lights flanking the doorway between the columns.
