Description

4 and 5 West Street is an 18th-century building fronting what is believed to be a 16th-century structure. It is two storeys and has an attic, with two windows on each floor. The first floor retains a slightly jettied appearance, supported by carved brackets, though this has been altered. The roof is tiled and features two gabled dormers. The building has a wooden eaves cornice, detailed with modillion ornaments, resting on brackets. The exterior is rendered with painted mathematical tiles. The ground floor has a modern shop front, and the first floor features casement windows. The building forms a group with Nos 1 and 2, and Nos 4 to 12, on West Street, and with Nos 14 to 16 on The Market Place.
