Description
Nos 8 and 9 West Street is a 15th-century timber-framed building that has been altered in the 18th century but still features an overhang on the first floor supported by a bressumer and brackets. The building has two storeys and two windows, with modern shop fronts. The upper part of the façade is plastered, and it has a wooden eaves cornice and a tiled roof. The windows are casement style. There is a passage through the ground floor of No 8, where timber framing and brick infilling can be seen in the west wall. Behind this passage, the west wall of No 8 is weatherboarded and overhangs on the first floor, supported by the protruding ends of the floor joists and brackets. Nos 1 and 2 and Nos 4 to 12, along with Nos 14 to 16, form a group with The Market Place.
