Description
Swanton Court is a 16th-century hall house with a front range added in 1854. The front elevation features red brick and a slate roof, standing two storeys high on a plinth, with a plat band and a modillion eaves cornice. There are stacks at the rear left and right. The regular fenestration includes two two-storey bay windows and a central glazing bar sash, which is set within a semi-circular headed gauged surround above a large central corniced portico supported by four Doric columns, leading to a central door with six raised and fielded panels. The rear of the building retains its hall house structure, which is timber framed with four bays, clad in red brick and topped with a plain tile roof. The left return front features 17th-century red brick with a string course and cornice. Inside, the building has tall square section and undecorated crown posts that are braced down to tie beams, along with close-studded partitions and original doors.
