Description
Downsells is a hall house dating from the 16th century, with a significant alteration in 1607 and clad in the 20th century. It features a timber frame covered with red brick and has a plain tile roof. The building stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a plat band and a brick dentil cornice. There are stacks located to the centre left and at the end left in a catslide outshot. The first floor has three 20th-century cement rendered mullioned windows, while the ground floor has two such windows and a plank and stud door set in a half-timbered hipped porch. The left return front displays exposed close-studded framing with a first-floor oriel, and there is an exposed framed rear wing. Inside, there is a mantel dated 1607, which is contemporary with the added rear wing.
