Description

This is a late 18th and early 19th century house, built for John Toker. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof, and comprises three parallel ranges. The house sits on a plinth and features a cornice to the parapet, with stacks positioned to the left and right. The windows are regularly spaced, with 5 glazing bar sashes on the first floor and 4 on the ground floor, each having gauged heads. A central doorway features double, half-glazed doors surmounted by a Gothic traceried fanlight and an open pediment supported by engaged Doric columns. A red brick garden wall, approximately 8 feet high and 50 yards in length, curves along the road to the east and south of the house. According to Hasted’s history of Kent, written in 1798, the wall was "built not many years since."
