Description

The Bier House, also known as a mortuary chapel, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of flint and dressed stone, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building is a single storey set on a plinth, featuring a gable with a kneelered parapet. A re-used medieval slit light is positioned in the gable above a plank and stud door that is framed by an arched surround. At the rear, there is a contemporary urinal and earth closet beneath a flat roof. This structure is included on the heritage register due to its rarity as a type.
