Description

Chestnut House is an early 19th-century house located on the south side of Boughton Street in Boughton. The house is constructed of painted brick and mathematical tiles, with a plain tiled roof. It has two storeys, an attic, and a basement; the upper storey is faced with mathematical tiles. The roof has a parapet, a hipped right side, and a return hip to the rear wing that oversails the ridge to the left. A flat-roofed dormer is situated on the right. Chimneys are located at the rear right and end left. The windows are arranged regularly; two shallow bow windows rise from the basement through two storeys, with tripartite glazing bar sashes. A central glazing bar sash is on the first floor, and a central half-glazed door is at the head of three steps, featuring a fluted Doric pilaster surround and a flat cornice hood. Details relating to the house are documented in the Faversham Papers, No. 25.
