Description

The Bier House, also known as the Mortuary Chapel, is located 30 metres south-east of the Church of St Mary. It was built in the 19th century and incorporates features from the medieval period. The structure is made of flint and rubble, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has a rectangular shape and is a single storey. The west elevation features a medieval rib and stud door with strap hinges, surrounded by a chamfered frame and topped with a small lancet window. On the east elevation, there is a trefoiled 14th-century window. The Bier House was likely constructed between 1841 and 1846 by Hussey, using materials salvaged from the restoration of the Church of St Mary.
