Description
No 34 Abbey Street is a timber-framed building that was formerly known as the Globe Inn, built in 1514. It was refronted in the 18th century but still retains the overhang of its first floor on a bressummer. The building has two storeys, featuring three windows and one original opening at the north end on the first floor. The ground floor is finished in painted brick, with an exposed corner post at the south end, while the first floor is plastered. There is a moulded wooden eaves cornice and a tiled roof. The first floor retains intact glazing bars, and there are two bays below with modern windows. The original doorway, located between the two bays, has a depressed arch, small shields in the spandrels, and a wide ribbed door. Some original features can still be found within the building.
