Description
Pillar Box House is a 15th or early 16th century hall house located in Kemsing Heaverham. The south front features exposed framing that reveals three bays, with the right bay appearing to have been removed. The old tiled roof has overhanging eaves and a plastered coved soffit. An arch brace on the right leads to a bressummer, and there is a mix of plaster and painted brick filling. The left bay is tile hung on the overhanging first floor. The building is two storeys high with three windows, primarily 19th century casements. The west front shows an extension likely from the late 16th century, with visible framing and brick filling on the first floor. The lower part is constructed of rubble masonry with brick dressings. Notably, the left side features curious brickwork with four arched niches set on a stone foundation, which may be remnants of ovens. There are also 18th and 19th century additions and modern restorations.
