Description

This is a house dating to around 1905, likely designed by the firm of Niven and Wigglesworth in the Queen Anne style. Constructed of red brick at ground floor level, with a pebbledashed first floor and a tiled roof, the house has three brick stacks. It has two storeys and attics, with three windows and a three-light hipped dormer. The right side features a projecting gable with an oval window framed by scrolled detailing. Below this are two octagonal turrets, each with five lights, connected by moulded wooden stringcourses. To the left of the gable is a single-light Ipswich window on the first floor, and a three-light oriel window on wooden brackets to the ground floor. The front door is half-glazed oak with decorative panelling. The left side elevation has a four-light attic oriel, and the right side has a similar attic oriel and a splayed staircase window. The rear elevation includes a three-light hipped dormer, two casement windows to the first floor, and a French window leading to an iron balcony above a projecting lounge, which has a six-light oriel window flanked by pebbledashed walls. Internally, the house features a series of two-panelled doors with original brass door locks. The staircase has Queen Anne-style panelling and wooden balusters. The front room retains its original fireplace with an eaved architrave and deep cornice, along with dado rails; the bay windows include window seats. The morning room has a fireplace with a cambered stone surround featuring a wooden fleur de lys and a cornice with brackets. The lounge has a deep ovolo moulded cornice and a fireplace with wooden pilasters and a central panel. The kitchen has a built-in wooden dresser and servants' bells.
