Description

This is a row of late 18th century brick and tile-hung cottages situated on London Road. The row comprises numbers 141 to 151 (odd), and includes a stone retaining wall along the front. The cottages are two storeys high, with eaves and a gutter running along the roofline. The roof is a mansard tile roof, half-hipped at each end, and features six flat-roofed dormers made of lead, arranged symmetrically in pairs. Six brick ridge stacks are present. The ground floor features recessed brick panels between brick pilasters. Each cottage has a single plain boarded door and one casement window. The doors of the central cottages are arranged in pairs. Number 141, on the extreme left, has an 18th century panelled door with a flat, bracketed hood above. It also has a splayed projecting bay window extending two storeys upwards, with a flat, leaded roof and modern casement windows, with a painted wooden panel between floors. The first floor of the other cottages features five casement windows, widely spaced in pairs. A random stone retaining wall borders London Road and fronts the cottage gardens.
