Description

Kippington House, an 18th-century building that now serves as an old folks' home, stands with attached coach buildings to the northwest. The main house has a rendered facade with a symmetrical two-bay-and-two-window arrangement. It is two storeys high, distinguished by a slightly projecting, pedimented central feature. A plinth runs along the base, topped by a band above the ground-floor windows. The building is further defined by a projecting, moulded dentilled cornice and a parapet. The roof is hipped and slate-covered, punctuated by two tall, rendered stacks, also featuring dentilled cornices. Most of the sash windows have had their glazing bars removed.

A projecting, single-storey porch extends from the centre of the facade, featuring rusticated lines imitating stone courses and flat pilasters supporting a moulded entablature with a dentilled cornice. It has a flat roof and a parapet. Inside the porch is a panelled door, with a rectangular recessed rendered panel positioned above it. Sash windows flank the door on either side.

The building has historic associations with the Farnaby family, who originally occupied the house. An earlier Jacobean house once stood on the site, and some of the coach buildings located to the rear date from the 17th century.
