Description

This is an early 18th-century farmhouse with a 17th-century timber frame, built against an early 15th-century hall house. The front of the farmhouse dates to the early 18th century, with three windows over two storeys. The structure is red brick with a parapet hiding steeply pitched tiled roofs, forming a U-shape to the rear, with a central section sloping down to ground floor eaves. Later rear extensions are also present. Three gabled dormers face west. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars in exposed frames and are set under segmental brick arches. A centrally located panelled door is set within a moulded architrave and flat hood supported by carved brackets.

The front section of the house contains two early 18th-century panelled rooms and a delicate staircase, slightly earlier in date. Within the older part, elements of a collar purlin and crown post roof can be seen, with one brace removed. There is also one end of the main roof truss, featuring a heavy arched tie beam and a large arch brace, which has been chamfered in two places.

The Old Cottage, The Old Farmhouse and the stable building are set together as a group.
