Description
Delaware is a manor house originally built for the Streatfeild family, who were associated with the old iron industry in the area. The house is dated 1679 above the door and features brick and tile-hung elevations that conceal a light-framed structure. The principal elevation faces west and has a ridge tile roof, with two storeys and hip-tiled dormers. The windows are modern lattice designs set in light 17th-century oak frames that are moulded internally with mullions and transoms.
In the center, there is a 17th-century panelled oak door framed by ornamental architrave moulding, topped with a carved oak semi-circular projecting hood that has an ornamental shell-shaped soffit, supported by carved scroll brackets. The south gable end elevation has an oversailing first floor supported on a moulded soffit beam, with moulded bargeboards featuring a central curved pendant. The rest of the house has an irregular shape, with a hip-tiled roof and various kitchen wings.
Inside, there is some 17th-century panelling on the first floor, complete with fluted pilasters and a moulded cornice, as well as an inglenook fireplace. Delaware, along with the Mounting Block, Granary, and Outbuilding to the northeast, forms a group.
