Description
The outbuilding to the north-east of Delaware is a 16th-century timber-framed structure with a Horsham stone roof. It features five bays on the first floor and has a stout queen post roof truss with wind braces supporting the purlins. The uprights are fairly closely set, and there are huge diagonal braces. The ceiling beams on the ground floor are elaborately moulded in both directions. Externally, some of the framing is visible with brick filling, and part of the building is tile hung. This outbuilding is likely the original farmhouse that predates the construction of the main house in 1679. In the 19th century, oasts were added at the north end, along with other extensions to the west. The outbuilding, along with Delaware, the Mounting Block, and the Granary, forms a group of related structures.
